Instacart has rolled out a new benefit where Express customers receive 5% credit back on eligible pickup orders from participating retailers. If this benefit is available with your subscription, it will appear when you place an eligible pickup order. 

This benefit isn’t currently available with all retailers. The credit is automatically added to your Instacart account, and you can use it on any future pickup or delivery order.

Your credits won’t expire unless you don’t place an order on the Instacart platform for a period of 12 months. 

Restrictions 

Some restrictions apply when earning this credit—

  • Earn 5% credit back on pickup orders only.
  • The 5% credit back is only earned on your subtotal, and doesn’t include tips, taxes, and fees.
  • You can’t earn credit on alcohol or prescription items.
  • You can’t earn credit back on the value of any item in excess of $150 or above.

There are also some restrictions when spending this earned credit—

  • You can’t use credit to purchase alcohol or prescription items.

Instacart may update these restrictions in the future.  

Using your credits

Credits automatically apply to your next pickup or delivery order at checkout.

You can confirm your credit applied at checkout on the Place order page.

  1. Scroll down to Apply credits & promotions.
  2. Here you’ll see a checked green box with the credit amount listed that applies to your order.

View earned credit on order receipt

To see the estimated credit back you could receive after placing your pickup order—

  1. At checkout, look under the Instacart Express Savings section.
  2. Look for the Estimated credit back line item.
    • Here you’ll see how much credit back you could receive from your order.

Note: If you didn’t receive as much credit back as originally expected, your order may have contained items listed within the restrictions above.

Once a shopper has completed your order, the final credit amount may change due to—

  • Item out of stock.
  • Replacement item price is different from requested item price.
  • Issue reported on an item after picking up.

To see the actual credit back you received after your pickup order is complete—

  1. Log in to your Instacart account.
  2. Select the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left-hand corner.
  3. Select Your orders.
  4. Select View order detail next to the order receipt you want to view.
  5. Select View receipt.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the receipt and look for Credit back from order with a yellow bolt icon next to it.
    • Here you’ll see how much credit back you received for your order.

View credits applied on order

You can see Instacart Express credits applied to an order at checkout and on the order receipt under subtotal

  1. At checkout, look under the Payment Method section.
  2. You’ll see an Apply Instacart credits checkbox. 
    • This box is automatically checked for you but you can uncheck if you don’t want to save the credits for another order.
  3. The line item under the subtotal shows the amount of Instacart credits that applied to your order.

View credits in Instacart account

You can see Instacart credits and their expiration dates in your Instacart account—

  1. Log in to your Instacart account.
  2. Select the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left-hand corner.
  3. Select Credits, promos, and gift cards.
  4. Under Express and gift card credits you’ll see how much credit you have available.
  5. Select View credit history to see credit balance adjustments.
